Cumberland Institutes Outdoor Water Ban
Cumberland Mayor Jeff Mutter is asking residents to comply with an outdoor water ban due to a mechanical failure at a municipal well.

CUMBERLAND, RI — The Cumberland Water Department has instituted a temporary outdoor water ban. The ban prohibits watering lawns and gardens and washing cars, driveways, houses and the topping off of swimming pools.
Mayor Jeff Mutter posted on Facebook and asked homeowners and businesses north of Marshall Avenue to conserve water. High demand due to soaring temperatures and a mechanical failure at the Manville 1 Well led to the problem, and the Cumberland Water Department is struggling to maintain daily demand, the mayor said.
Mutter said crews expect to have the mechanical problem fixed by the end of the week.
