Babysitting Course Offered In East Providence

The course, led by registered nurses, will teach about CPR, choking, AED use, staged of child development and more.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — The East Providence Recreation Department will soon offer a course on "How to Be a Great Babysitter." The six-hour course, led by a registered nurse, will cover CPR training, what to do in a cases of choking, use of AED, stages of child development, activities, and changing a feeding a baby. The fast -paced course will include hands-on practice on adult and infant mannequins.

In addition, the course will cover babysitting safety and injury prevention, elements of first aid for young children and ways to get a babysitting business started. Registered nurse Catherine Alexander will serve as instructor.

The course will take place on Oct. 16 and Oct. 23, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the East Providence Recreation Center, located at 610 Waterman Ave. It is recommended for teens 11 years old and older. The cost is $65 per person. It includes a certificate and a T-shirt.
