Dead Man, Explosives Found in EP Home

A neighborhood was evacuated while the bomb squad seized and tested the explosives.

Police evacuated a neighborhood Wednesday after finding a dead man and explosives inside an East Providence home.

Est Providence Police Lt. Raymond Blinn said police got a call Wednesday morning reporting a sudden death, turnto10.com reports. Responding to the home, police found a man who apparently died of natural causes. But what they found inside the home with the man was what raised alarms - grenades.

The bomb squad reported and seized the grenades, allowing residents back into the area after a couple hours. Police have not yet identified the man found dead. The medical examiner is investigating.

Police also found a handful of items that appeared to be grenades. The area was closed off as the bomb squad seized the explosives to try and determine if they are active.

The area was evacuated. Residents were allowed back into their homes a couple hours later.

Police have not released the name of the homeowner. The medical examiner’s office is looking into the death.
