East Providence To Consider Speed Cameras In School Zones
The East Providence City Council unanimously backed the proposal to look into installing the cameras to help enforce speed limits.
EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — The eye in the sky could soon be helping enforce speed limits in school zones in East Providence. The Providence City Council last night unanimously approved a proposal to consider installing the cameras.
Providence and Pawtucket have already installed speed cameras in school zones with East Providence Mayor Bob DaSilva telling WPRI-TV that his impression is that has resulted in safer roads in those communities.
DaSilva said that speeding is a common complaint in the city and that the cameras would not simply be used as a way to generate general revenue. He told the station all money would go back into enhancing public safety in the city.
