East Providence Man Indicted On Murder, Assault Charges

Prosecutors say 20-year-old Justin Chandler is facing murder, assault, and conspiracy charges.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — An East Providence man has been indicted by the Statewide Grand Jury on murder charges in connection with a Providence homicide, said Attorney General Peter F. Neronha in a news release Tuesday.

Prosecutors say Justin Chandler, 20, is facing charges including one count each of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence, assault with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence, assault with a dangerous weapon resulting in permanent incapacity, carrying a pistol without a license, conspiracy to carry a pistol without a license, and firing in a compact area.

The alleged acts occurred on December 4, 2020 at approximately 11:23 a.m., said Neronha. The investigation was conducted by Providence police.

Chandler is scheduled to be arraigned in Providence County Superior Court on May 5.
