East Providence Mayor’s Youth Summer Police & Fire Academy Back
The academy is open to 15 participants between the ages of 14 and 24, who will receive a stipend at the conclusion of the program.
EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — The East Providence Mayor's Youth Summer & Fire Academy is returning for 2020 despite the coronavirus health emergency.
While some of the programs may be altered due to coronavirus restrictions, and participants will be required to wear masks — which will be provided — at all times, the city is inviting those ages 14 to 24 to apply for one of the 15 spots.
The academy will be held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning July 20.

"We had such great success with our pilot academy in 2019, where participants gained first-hand knowledge of our local police and fire departments’ operations that we decided to make this an annual academy," Mayor Bob DaSilva said. "We are encouraging all people between the ages of 14 and 24 to participate in this amazing opportunity."
A $200 stipend will be award to each participant at the end of the program on Aug. 19.
"The East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) is proud to implement the second annual Mayor’s Police and Fire Academy," said Dennis Roy, EBCAP CEO. "This program helps youth gain exposure to the fields of law enforcement and fire science, while also developing employability and leadership skills."
