East Providence McDonald's To Host Lt. Governor For Hiring Event

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — The McDonald's on Taunton Avenue in East Providence will host a hiring event featuring remarks from Rhode Island Lt. Governor Sabina Matos on Wednesday, June 16 from 10-10:30 a.m.

The event is part of the company's plan to hire 272 restaurant employees across the 31 locations in the state to boost Rhode Island's post-pandemic economy and teach teens and young adults job skills including teamwork, customer service, and responsibility.

Matos will speak to attendees on youth employment, higher education, and the state's goals around local hiring amidst the pandemic. Shundell Javier, a local recipient of McDonald's' tuition assistance program Archways to Opportunity, will also speak on how the company can help employees further their education.

According to the company, this year marks the five-year anniversary of Archways to Opportunity. Employees are eligible for the program after 90 days and 15 hours a week and can earn a high school diploma and receive between $2,500 and $3,000 in upfront higher education tuition.
