East Providence Swears In First Veteran's Council

East Providence Major Bob DaSilva swore in eight of 11 members of the new Mayor's Council on Veteran's Affairs Monday night.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — The Mayor's Council on Veteran's Affairs is taking shape after East Providence Mayor Bob DaSilva swore in eight members of the 11-member council Monday night.

DaSilva said the council is comprised of volunteers both civilians and veterans. They will have monthly public meetings with the hope of vetting issues and coming up with suggestions to improve conditions for veterans in East Providence.

David DosReis is the elected chairman of the council and Henry Caparco is the elected vice chairman. The other six members sworn in Monday night are Luci Stoddard, Rosie Pereira, Jordan Pacheco, Karen Panzarella, Tony Abatecola.

DaSilva signed his first executive order to authorize the Mayor's Council on Veteran's Affairs in November.

"My administration saw there was great need to bring together residents who are dedicated to veterans' affairs and others in the community who represent organizations focus on the betterment of veterans' lives," DaSilva said in a statement through his office. "I look forward to
working with our Veterans Council to reinforce the city's commitment to our veterans."
