East Providence's Kathryn Crowley Named Superintendent Of Year
Rhode Island's 2020 Superintendent of Year Award winner is Kathryn Crowley of East Providence Public Schools. She was awarded last month.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — Kathryn Crowley, superintendent of East Providence Public Schools, has been selected as Rhode Island Superintendent of the Year for 2020. The award was presented by Rhode Island School Superintendents' Association, which sited the students' academic improvement under her leadership and the East Providence voters' approval of the new high school.
"I may have been hired as the superintendent, but we, as a team, accomplished these things for the students and family members of East Providence," said Crowley, who was awarded Superintendent of the Year during the association's general membership meeting last month. North Kingston Superintendent Phil Auger, winner of the 2019 award, presented the 2020 award to Crowley.
According to School Superintendents' Association, East Providence experienced a resurgence in student performance during Crowley's tenure. This included improved graduation and attendance rates. In addition, voters in East Providence approved $189.5 million for a new state-of-the-art high school under her leadership. The new school is slated to be completed next year.

Crowley has been the East Providence superintendent since 2015. Among her other accomplishments included revised curricula in all subjects, expanded technology at the schools and a cultural awareness program. A capital improvement program has also been implemented for all school facilities during Crowley's time at East Providence public schools.
Before joining East Providence, Crowley was superintendent for Little Compton from 2010 to 2015. Before that, she was assistant superintendent for Johnston Public Schools from 2003 to 2010. Previously, she also served as high school and middle school principal and as adjunct faculty with the education administration preparation program at Providence College.

According to the East Providence School District, Crowley will also be honored at the 2019 Rhode Island Public Expenditure annual meeting on Monday, Oct. 7 at the Rhode Island Convention Center, located at 1 Sabin St. in Providence.
