EAST PROVIDENCE, RI— Hurricane Harvey continues to have an impact on gasoline prices in Rhode Island, with a four cent increase over last week, according to AAA Northeast. A number of oil refineries in the Gulf Coast are either shutdown, operating at reduced rates, or are in the process of restarting.
AAA Northeast’s September 11 survey of prices in Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.73 per gallon. Rhode Island’s price is six cents above the national average of $2.67. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was fifty-five cents lower at $2.18 per gallon.

“Regional gasoline supplies dropped last week, reflecting tighter supply due to those refineries remaining offline after Hurricane Harvey,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs. “As pipelines and refineries return to their full operations, prices should start to decrease later in the month.”
The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 22 cents, from a low of $2.64 to a high of $2.86. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time.
