Potholes Cropping Up as Weather Wobbles

Hot-cold switches in the weather continued to cause damage to East Providence roads this week as DPW Director Steve Coutu warned residents to drive with caution.

One pothole took out an East Providence Police Cruiser's tire Jan. 11 near Sip and Dip Donuts at 497 Warren Ave. at about 3 a.m. A DOT supervisor responded to the scene and called a crew to cold-patch the hole, according to a police report.

Coutu said the hot-cold weather that caused a water main break on Waterman Avenue last week was continuing to cause problems on the city's roads. "It's difficult to keep up with it," he said.

Coutu said drivers should pay particular attention to speed limit signs given the continuing weather damage to local roads, to minimize the likelihood that a pothole will damage your car.
