A Providence man trying to hitchhike home wound up with a ride to the East Providence Police Department Jan. 15 instead when an officer discovered he was wanted in New Hampshire.
An East Providence officer noticed a suspicious person standing on Warren Avenue near Rte. 195 at 9:08 p.m. that night, and spoke with the man, later identified as a resident of Providence.
The officer learned the man was attempting to hitchhike home. He also learned there was a warrant for the man's arrest out of the New Hampshire Board of Parole as a habitual traffic offender.Â
The officer arrested him, charging him as a fugitive from justice. The charges were dismissed Jan. 23 in Sixth District Court.
