“Drivers need to make smarter decisions and not get behind the wheel after drinking,” said Col. James M. Manni, Rhode Island State Police superintendent, in a statement. “Rhode Islanders are facing difficult days and many challenges right now, but it is not an excuse to drive while impaired. Our Traffic Safety Unit and our road Troopers are working hard to keep the roadways safe and will have zero tolerance for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”

Manni said police have increased impaired driving enforcement by adding a Traffic Safety Unit funded by a federal grant through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
