Rhode Island Thanksgiving Weather Forecast: Cold, But Snow?

Rhode Island may miss the worst of two storms over the next week, and at worst it'll be a very cold holiday.

A rush of arctic cold and the possibility of a slushy holiday are on the menu for Thanksgiving. Rhode Island may dodge a pair of storms over the next week leading into Turkey Day, but even the best-case scenarios aren't calling for it to be particularly nice out.

A major storm is expected late this week in the northeast, preceding what forecasters are calling bitter cold next week. For once it appears the Ocean State may actually avoid the worst of it. A system this Thursday will bring light to moderate showers across Rhode Island, but the snow will likely stay up in Maine into Friday morning. The National Weather Service expects the rain to begin in the late morning and end in the early afternoon.

For Thanksgiving, temperatures are expected to fall below freezing. It's possible an icy storm does roll up the East Coast, but it may not make it as far as Rhode Island. If it does get up here, it's expected to be more of the dreaded wintry mix than a full-on storm.

"In terms of an East Coast storm, we are not expecting a powerhouse event, but rather more of the nuisance variety," said AccuWeather Long-Range Meteorologist Evan Duffey.

As of Wednesday, Weather.com and the National Weather Service aren't calling for much precipitation in Rhode Island on Thanksgiving. That can always change as we inch closer to Nov. 23, so stick with Patch as we update you with new forecasts.
