Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and immunocompromised individuals, said RIDOH. Healthy people infected with Salmonella often experience symptoms including fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. There are also rare cases in which the organism can get into the bloodstream and cause more severe illnesses.

Anyone who has purchased the recalled shrimp products can return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. More information about the specific products included in the recall is available here.
