RI Weather Forecast: 'Little Bit Of Everything' On Its Way

A winter weather advisory is now in effect as wind and ice join flooding as major concerns.

The National Weather Service Friday morning warned of a "little bit of everything" is on its way the next 36+ hours. AccuWeather said to be aware of a "multi-faceted storm." It appears the forecasters are correct: In addition to a statewide flood watch, a winter weather advisory and wind advisory have popped up.

The rain is just part of what's on tap, but it's a big part. The state can expect 2-3 inches. The rain and melting snow (it's going to be over 50 degrees Friday and Saturday) are causing concern for the possibilities of flooding due to poor draining and high rivers.

The rain could begin early Friday afternoon, but it won't begin in earnest until the early evening. Heavy rains will be falling from Friday evening to well into Saturday, with a brief overnight letdown.

The concern extends into Saturday evening, after the rain has gone. A sudden temperature drop - about a 30-degree drop into the mid-20s - will layer most of the state in a thin layer of ice. The ride home from the Patriots game, for instance, could be a dangerous one thanks to what forecasters are calling a flash freeze.

The dreaded wintry mix could makes its way eastward Saturday as temperatures begin to dip. The forecast now is for a clear, but cold, game in Foxborough.

The wind advisory will be in effect for Southeastern Mass. and the Cape and Islands, where gusts of up to 55 miles per hour are expected.
