RI Weather Outlook: Storm Timing, Snow Estimates

The NWS released new estimates for snow totals and timing.

BOSTON, MA — Wednesday's storm is starting in the mid-late morning and will drop just a coulee of inches on much of Rhode Island, according to the most updated forecasts. The state can also brace for a wintry mix and freezing rain.

First, the question everyone wants to know: How much snow will fall? Unfortunately some uncertainty about where the snow-rain line will fall means we don't exactly know yet, but the National Weather Service is guessing 1-2 inches in the northern part of the state and less than an inch on the southern part. In Massachusetts, the forecast is 3-6 inches from about Boston to Worcester and New Hampshire. Areas south of Boston will see dramatically less snow accumulation, but can still expect either sleet or rain.

The storm will start around 9 a.m. for much of Rhode Island and 10 a.m. around Newport and Southeastern Mass.
