Special City Council Meeting August 6, 2020
Public Input Sought for Proposed Development of Metacomet Golf Course

Metacomet Golf course will potentially be redeveloped into retail/light industry/housing if a zoning change is passed by the city council. The failing golf course was included in an "Opportunity Zone"by East Providence state legislators. Opportunity Zones were created in the 2018 Tax Law and are quite lucrative for developers.
Prior to the sale to the Faxon Group, the Nature Conservancy attempted to purchase the property to keep it as open space, but was unsuccessful.
Currently, the Marshall Group is in the process of acquiring it, and they are represented by the state senator, William Conley, who created the opportunity zone. An enthusiastic group "Keep Metacomet Green!" has created a facebook page and and there is a website with additional details. https://metacomet-haveitourway...
