State Police Report a Dozen Accidents Statewide

Winter Storm 'Stella' has figured in about a dozen accidents, but no one has been injured, state police report.

SCITUATE, RI — The state police have issued a third update on Winter Storm Stella.

"A dozen minor accidents have been reported across the state as a result of the continuing storm. No injuries have been reported, and there have been no major storm-related incidents as of 1 p.m. Troopers also have had to assist six disabled motorists.

"Troopers in the Lincoln barracks have responded to nine accidents, none serious, and have assisted five disabled motorists so far. Troopers in the Wickford barracks responded to two accidents and one car off the road. Troopers in the Hope Valley barracks responded to one accident.

"Snow continues to fall across much of the state, though it has changed to rain in southern parts of the state. Many roads remain snow-covered as plows try to clear the roadways. Driving remains dangerous, and State Police continue to urge all motorists to stay off the roads. High winds also could result in damage to trees and downed power lines, which could pose hazards to motorists.

"Col. Ann Assumpico, Superintendent of State Police and Director of Public Safety, continues to urge motorists to stay off the roads.
