Chemical Spill Prompts HazMat Response At Lincoln Business

LINCOLN, RI — Crews this morning responded to a chemical spill inside a single-story industrial building near Rt. 123.

A HazMat response was launched with reports of a hydrochloric acid spill at 11 New England Way, the home of ChemArt.

At around 8:45 a.m., a tanker truck was making a delivery to the Chem Art facility. A pump transport unit inside the building malfunctioned, spilling approximately 100 gallons of hydrochloric acid. The building was evacuated while members of Lincoln Fire, North Providence Decon, and the Department of Environmental Management worked to mitigate the spill, said Lincoln Police Det. Christopher Lefort.

No injuries were reported.

By noon, first responders were still on the scene, Lincoln police confirmed.
