Early Thursday a man tried to enter a home on Read Ave. Two weeks ago, an intruder confronted residents on Smithfield Ave.

LINCOLN, RI — The Lincoln Police Department is asking residents to be alert to any suspicious activity.
The warning comes as the department investigates two separate incidents in the area of Smithfield and Read avenues — a breaking and entering on April 28, and an attempted breaking and entering early Thursday.
At approximately 2:30 a.m. on May 6, residents of a home on Read Avenue were woken from their sleep by loud banging, according to Capt. Philip Gould of the Lincoln Police. When the residents got up to investigate, they saw a man in the process of opening their front storm door.

Around nine days ago, there was a full breaking and entering in the same neighborhood. On April 28 at around 5:30 a.m., an intruder entered a home on Smithfield Avenue while the residents were sleeping. After being confronted, the man fled on foot toward Read Avenue. Once again, the suspect eluded police. The residents described the suspect as a possible white male wearing a black mask and dark clothing.
Lincoln police say it is unknown if the two incidents are related.
The department said it wants to remind residents to lock their doors at night and report anything that appears suspicious. Anyone with information about the incidents, or anyone who finds anything suspicious on their home surveillance cameras should call Detective Wingate at 401-333-1111.
The Lincoln Police Department will be increasing patrols in the area.
