RI State Police Nab Mass. Fugitive In Rt. 146 Traffic Stop

LINCOLN, RI — A man who allegedly shot and injured an acquaintance at a Massachusetts hotel was arrested shortly after midnight Sunday by Rhode Island State Police following a traffic stop on Rt. 146 in the town of Lincoln.

Brandon Coldwell, 27, of South Boston on May 6 allegedly visited a man and woman staying at a hotel in West Boylston, demanded money, and shot a gun during a struggle, injuring the man. Coldwell allegedly left the scene in a cab, and police issued a warrant for Coldwell’s arrest.

Coldwell was wanted for robbery with a firearm, assault with intent to murder, and possession of a firearm without a permit. He is now also charged with being a fugitive from justice, manufacturing or possessing a schedule I drug (MDMA) with intent to distribute, two counts of obstructing an officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and vandalism, according to a news release from Rhode Island State Police.

Coldwell was transported to the State Police Lincoln Woods Barracks and held overnight. Upon confirming his identity, Coldwell was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace and transported to the Adult Correctional Institution Men's Intake Center. In Third Division District Court on Monday morning, Coldwell was ordered held without bail.
