5 THINGS: Concert Band and TV Commercials

It's not a bird, it's not a plane – it's Five Things.

Here are the (more than) Five Things for Friday, December 7, 2012:

“My band and I, we cover our bodies in hairspray and glitter. We use the hairspray to make sure the glitter sticks.” – Ke$ha. In what promises to be just as big of a spectacle, the URI concert band plays at 8 p.m. tonight. Admission is $10 for the general public, or $5 for URI students. For more info, click here.

Oh no! Maybe there seriously aren’t that many events today, given that it’s Armed Forces Flag Day in India. As a result, our events calendar for today is a bit barren. If you’re having an event, please let us know in the comments. Also, make sure it isn’t left out in the future – Submit it via this link (as long as you’re logged into your Patch account).

Oh, what a great day… not. On this day in 1930, the first American television commercial ever played. It was on The Fox Trappers, and it was for I.J. Fox Furriers, so obviously, it was a show and spot that still resonates today.

She’s not going to write you a love song, whether you ask for one or you need it, you see. Happy 33rd birthday to Sara Bareilles. If you haven’t heard her before, well, it’s kind of like Fiona Apple without the squalor.
