5 THINGS: Jazz, School Committee and Traffic

Plus, it's Bill Nye's birthday! Please go crazy with glee because of this information.

Here are the (more than) Five Things for Tuesday, November 27, 2012:

“Politicians are interested in people. Not that this is always a virtue. Fleas are interested in dogs.” – P.J. O’Rourke. Here are today’s government meetings:

  • The South Kingstown Planning Board has a work session at 7 p.m.
  • The South Kingstown School Committee meets at 7 p.m. in the South Kingstown High School library.
  • The Narragansett Towers Committee meets at 7 p.m. at the Towers.

RIDOT: Watch out for altered travel pattern! Route 1 North and South will have some diversions near the Pond Street and Salt Pond Road exits for bridge inspections. They’re taking place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, so add some extra time to your commute if you’re affected.

“That’s jazz, baby!” “AQUALUNG!” – Ron Burgandy. The URI Jazz Series II concert is at 7:30 p.m. General admission is $10, but if you’re a student, it’s only $5. The show is at the Fine Arts Center on campus.

Oh no! Maybe there seriously aren’t that many events today, given that it’s Maaveerar Day. As a result, our events calendar for today is a bit barren. If you’re having an event, please let us know in the comments. Also, make sure it isn’t left out in the future – Submit it via this link (as long as you’re logged into your Patch account).

Santa AND Cookies!!! The South Kingstown Guild is holding a kids’ cookie creation class on Dec. 1, but they would like people to pre-register, for obvious reasons. For more information, click here. The class is aimed at children ages 5 to 10, and the cost is $12 per child. Also, the Guild is hosting Santa on Dec. 5, 6 and 7, but the program is limited to SK residents. For more info, click here.

Give the gift of food this holiday season. Children’s Dentistry of Wakefield is having a food drive from now until Dec. 19. For more info, click here.

Sign up for our daily newsletter! Hey, I realize we have a lot of neat features and knick-knacks on the site, so it can be confusing to keep up with it all. No Snoopy just yet, of course. On this day in 1924, the first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade took place.

Bill, Bill, Bill, Bill, Bill, Bill… Happy 57th birthday to Bill Nye the Science Guy! Thank you for making education awesome, since I saw your videos like 500 times while substitute teaching, and you were way better than The Magic School Bus.
