Bank Robber Sentenced To Time Served Plus 7 Days: US Attorney
Police dog 'Bear' tracked the robber to a nearby shed where all the money was recovered.

NARRAGANSETT, RI — He was caught within minutes after he robbed the Centerville Bank branch in Narragansett last November. William H. Dority, 56, of South Kingstown, has been in jail since November 28 when police and a K-9 dog named "Bear," tracked him to his hiding place, a nearby shed. That's where they also recovered all the money: $4,635. He pleaded guilty to bank robbery in April.
On Wednesday, a federal judge sentenced him to time served plus seven days for the crime, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. According to the plea deal, a 37-month sentence was recommended. . But he will also do two years supervised probation after he's released.
This robbery was not Dority's first bank heist, the office said. When he robbed the Narragansett bank, he was on probation for robbing a bank in Virgina. For that crime, he was sentenced to 45 years, 30 years suspended with probation.

Narragansett police said Dority gave the Centerville Bank teller a note to give him cash. On his way out, the panic alarm went off and another employee also called 911. Officers borrowed the K-9 dog from the Department of Environmental Management and captured Dority in about 30 minutes.
