Benny's Name Lives On Through New Supermarket
Benny's Fresh Market bears the same iconic font as the long-running store, but it isn't run by the original owners.

RICHMOND, R.I. -- An iconic piece of Rhode Island history is coming back to life, sort of. The grocery store "Benny's Fresh Market" bears the same name and signature red cursive as Benny's stores of the past, but it isn't actually affiliated with the iconic brand.
"We grew up shopping at Benny's with our parents, and it will forever be one of our favorite childhood memories," the owners of the upcoming supermarket wrote on their newly-formed Facebook page. "Although we do not have affiliation and are not owned by the original Benny's, it fills us with nostalgia to be able to honor such an iconic piece of Rhode Island history. Don't worry though, Benny's Fresh Market has legally obtained the rights to our name and logo."

The store will not be in a former Benny's store location, rather in the former Wildwood Liquors building on Kingstown Road, just a stone's throw away from the town's only other grocery store, Stop and Shop.
"We are excited to offer our customers the freshest produce, USDA fresh meats, egg and dairy products, seafood, gourmet foods & much more all at affordable prices," the company continued. "Benny's Fresh Market is a labor of love, mostly a love of great food! We are a group with over a 100 years of experience in the food service and retail industry. We truly are food people."

No formal opening date has been announced at this time, with store owners simply teasing that it is "coming soon to Richmond."
The store describes itself as a haven for fresh food, providing local products from New England farms when they are in season, and sourcing poultry and meats from a USDA certified company in Massachusetts.
"We source unique and different food products from around the world to offer our customers at amazing prices," the post concluded. "At Benny’s Fresh Market we really love food and we think it shows. We’re going to change the way you grocery shop!"
