Block Island Volunteer Charged With Embezzlement
State police allege the volunteer fire department's treasurer embezzled $23,000.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI— State police allege the volunteer fire department's treasurer embezzled $23,000. Kate Campanale, 36, of Old Saybrook, Conn., was arrested Thursday. She was charged with felony embezzlement over $1,500.
Campanale was released on $10,000 personal recognizance after a district court appearance in South Kingstown.
State police said they were asked in May to "investigate suspected embezzlement within the Block Island Volunteer Fire Department." Police allege Campanale "stole $22,733.98 from the fire department’s bank accounts between 2015 and 2018 when she was the volunteer treasurer. She also worked as the fire department's administrative assistant from 2017 to 2018. She was paid for that job.
