On Tuesday, April 30, Governor Lincoln D. Chafee will join Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training Director Charles J. Fogarty and Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management Director Janet Coit for a tour of two state recreational areas hit hard by Tropical Storm Sandy and currently undergoing restoration.

A National Emergency Grant is financing short-term, full-time employment for site workers, whose duties include moving beach sand, removing storm debris and improving campgrounds.

To be eligible for these jobs, which pay between $12 and $14 per hour, workers were required to be long-term unemployed Rhode Islanders. Veterans, who were given hiring priority, make up approximately 50 percent of the recent hires.

In addition to Scarborough State Beach and Burlingame State Park, workers are also busy preparing the following state recreational sites: Charlestown Breachway, East Bay State Beach, East Matunuck State Beach, Fishermen's Memorial Campground, Goddard Memorial State Park, Misquamicut State Beach, Roger Wheeler State Beach and Salty Brine State Beach.
