Damaging Winds Make Several South Kingstown Roads Impassable

High winds are expected to last until at least 10 p.m.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Damaging winds knocked down tree limbs and power lines across the town on Friday, cutting power to many and making several roads impassable. A wind warning is in effect in all of Washington and Newport Counties until 10 p.m.

As of 4 p.m., the following roads were impassable, according to South Kingstown police:

  • Green Hill Beach Road
  • Rose Hill Road by Peacedale Shooting Preserve
  • 825 Wordens Pond Road
  • Middlebridge Road at Bridgetown
  • Oak Street at School Street
  • Post Road at Camp Fuller
  • Route 110 in the area of Curtis Corner Road

The department received a high call volume due to the inclement weather and asked callers to reach out to National Grid directly to inquire about power restoration.

The storm left thousands of Rhode Islanders in the dark on Friday, with wind gusts predicted to peak at 60 mph in coastal areas. A wind warning is in effect in Washington and Newport Counties until 10 p.m., while a wind advisory was issued for the rest of the state.
