Domestic Assault, Knife Possession Charges in SK

A South Kingstown man is charged with domestic assault, and a Massachusetts man is charged with possession of a knife. South Kingstown police reports from April 10 and April 11, 2013.

South Kingstown Man Charged With Domestic Assault

Jeremy John Whitford, 37, of 64 Juniper Road, South Kingstown, was arrested at about 9 p.m. on April 10 and charged with domestic assault.

According to police, they received a 911 call from a 35-year-old South Kingstown woman. The woman told police that Whitford had assaulted her, and she had locked herself in the bathroom to avoid him.

Police said that the woman told them she and Whitford had gotten into a fight about him driving while intoxicated, and as a result, she had poured his beers out in the driveway. Police said that the victim told them that this enraged Whitford, and he hit at her as he tried to get car keys from her as well.

According to police, a bulletin was issued for Whitford’s pick-up truck, and Narragansett police arrested him that night. Police said he was transferred to South Kingstown headquarters at about 9 p.m. for processing, and then released at about 10:21 p.m.

Massachusetts Man Charged With Possession of Knife

Joseph Alston, 26, of 32 Deckard St., Dorchester, MA, was arrested at about 6:52 a.m. on April 10 and charged with possession of a weapon (knife) other than a firearm.

According to police, Alston matched the description of a larceny suspect from earlier in the day on April 10. Police said Alston was walking alone near Paul Masse on Tower Hill Road, and police noted that an alarm was ringing at the business.

Police said they performed a pat-down of Alston, which revealed a black stiletto style knife with an illegal length. He was arrested at this point.

According to police, Alston was questioned about the robbery and appeared to be involved, however, his information did not lead to an arrest. He was held for arraignment at 9 a.m.
