Driver Charged With DUI In Block Island Crash: State Police
The 20-year-old driver is believed to have been drinking and driving recklessly, according to police.

NEW SHOREHAM, RI — One person was injured and another arrested following a rollover crash on Block Island Sunday, according to Rhode Island State Police. The 20-year-old driver is accused of driving recklessly while drunk, police said.
Police later identified the driver as Anthony Almonte, of Sebastian, Florida. He was charged with DUI, BAC unknown, reckless driving and possession of an alcoholic beverage by a minor.
The crash happened on Old Mill Road at 7:45 p.m. A photo from state police shows a silver or gray pickup truck lying on its side in the road, as well as a beer can.

The department has stepped up its presence on the island following a string of fatal crashes and issues with mopeds. Last week, New Shoreham's Town Council voted to place more restrictions on mopeds after a 22-year-old Cranston man was killed in a head-on crash with an SUV. So far this year, 55 crashes involving mopeds have been reported on the island, leading councilors to crack down on rental companies.
