Five Things, July 5: Concerts, Facebook and More

Today is Friday, July 5, 2013 and here are five things you should know about.

Summer Concert Series at the Gazebo: Head down to Narragansett for an evening of music in the gazebo with Gary "Guitar" & the Grinders. Move your feet and sway your hips to some classic soul, rhythm and blues, rock and country. This free event at Casino Park starts at 6 p.m.

Star Gazing at Frosty Drew Observatory: Fridays at 6 p.m. during fall and winter and shortly after dusk during spring and summer head to the Frosty Drew Observatory in Ninigret Park in Charlestown. See the stars, our moon, the planets and their moons, distant galaxies, and maybe a passing comet, through a big telescope. Weather permitting. Admission is free; donations are appreciated.

Summer Comedies at the Contemporary Theater: Every Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. plus select Thursdays and Sundays the Contemporary Theater Company in Wakefield will perform three family-friendly comedies, running 4 weeks each, all summer long. For now the theater is performing Fuddy Meers. Look forward to these upcoming performances:  July 19 - Aug. 10: A Flea in Her Ear. Aug. 16 - Sept. 7: Bob. See the theater's website for details.

Outdoor Water Restrictions: Thanks to the massive heat wave sweeping across the country - and Rhode Island's south shore - both Narragansett and South Kingstown have enacted restrictions on outdoor water usage.

  • In South Kingstown there is an outdoor water use ban on alternate odd and even days for their South Shore and Middlebridge Water Customers. Customers with an odd number street address may water only on odd number days, while customers with an even number street address may water only on even number days. This water restriction is being enacted to ensure sufficient supply during heavy summertime consumer demand.
  • In Narragansett there is an outdoor water use ban on alternate odd and even days. Customers with an odd number street address may water only on odd number weekdays, while customers with an even number street address may water only on even number weekdays.

This watering restriction is being enacted as an anticipatory measure to ensure sufficient supply to meet customer needs. In addition, water customers are encouraged to use water wisely.
