Sharing the same zip code as three of Rhode Island's world-class beaches, this week's nautical "catch" of antiques at The General Stanton Inn Flea Market, includes: an all-brass, anchor-shaped vintage inclinometer in a custom-made wooden display case, a 19th century ship's octant (yes, that's one degree up from a sextant!); an almost two-foot-tall nautical lamp with ribbed red glass; a ship's compass created by the Lionel Company (yes, of the toot-toot toy model trains), which went "off-line" in the 1940s to create critically-needed items for the World War Two effort; vintage fishing reels and lures; a big barge light; a selection of ships' models, such as the L.A. Dunton; a 3-foot tall binnacle, that would have been on a 78 or 80-foot sailboat back in the 1920s or '30s; what one nautical vendor refers to as a "boat-load" of marine hardware: pulleys, cleats, etc.; AND a 4-foot canoe carved from a single piece of wood.
All of these items are for sail...er, sale, at the booths of this sea-breezed, tree-shaded Flea Market on Sunday, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.. The Flea Market is held on the grounds of the historic General Stanton Inn (est 1667), until the 2020 Season ends Columbus Day Weekend.\
