Four Students Cited for Minor Violations

A party is broken up on Gardenia, and police site four college students for minor violations. Narragansett police logs from April 4 and April 5, 2013.

Four College Students Cited for Minor Violations

- Christopher Whatley, 20, of 285 Ocean Road, Narragansett, was cited at about 9:44 p.m. on April 4 and charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor. Police said Whatley is a student at the University of Rhode Island.

According to police, an officer noted a grey Honda Civic swerving on Burnside Avenue, and also traveling at 44 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone. A traffic stop was made on Ocean Road near Walcott Avenue.

Police said that during the stop, a six-pack of Rolling Rock beer could be seen by the feet of a passenger. After the driver was identified as Whatley, the beer was confiscated and he was cited.

- Victor J. DeJesus, 21, of 9 Merriweather Ave., Narragansett, was cited at about 6 p.m. on April 4 and charged with driving with a suspended license. Police said DeJesus is a student at the University of Rhode Island.

According to police, an officer traveling on Boston Neck Road saw a brown Nissan Maxima with an illegal tint on the windows. A traffic stop was made on Bridgetown Road near Johnson Street.

Police said a background check of the driver – DeJesus – revealed that his license was suspended on Feb. 19 for no proof of insurance. He was cited for the license violation, and the tint, and his car was towed from the scene.

- Judson F. Kahl, 19, of 31 Bristol Road, Narragansett, was cited at about 9:47 p.m. on April 5 and charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor. Police said Kahl is a student at the University of Rhode Island.

According to police, an officer monitoring traffic on Point Judith Road from the St. Mary’s Church parking lot saw a green Volvo sedan with a defective passenger side headlight. A traffic stop was made on Bristol Road near Charlestown Boulevard.

Police said that when they asked if there was any alcohol in the car, a passenger said, “This,” and held up a bottle of Jameson’s whiskey. The alcohol was confiscated, and Kahl – the driver – was cited for the alcohol and the headlight violation.

- Alyson J. Doyle, 20, of 244 Capstan St., Jamestown, was cited at about 7:56 p.m. on April 5 and charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor. Police said Doyle is a student at the Community College of Rhode Island.

According to police, an officer driving on Point Judith Road saw a red Toyota Camry driven by Doyle fail to stop at a red light before turning on to Burnside Avenue. A traffic stop was made on Charlestown Boulevard near Bristol Road.

Police said that when Doyle was asked if there was any alcohol in the car, a passenger provided police with a bottle of Burnett’s Vodka in a brown paper bag. The alcohol was confiscated, and Doyle was cited for running a red light and transportation of alcohol by a minor.

Party Broken Up on Gardenia Lane

At about 11:30 p.m. on April 5, police received a report of a loud party at 35 Gardenia Lane.

According to police, there were about 100 people at the party, with 10 cars illegally parked in the neighborhood and on surrounding streets.

Police said the tenants were cooperative and helped clear the party quickly. The tenants were identified as Nicholas Laurie, 20, and Dylan C. Barrett, Nicholas Robert Dill and Connor J. Olson, 19.
