QUONSET, RI — As the coronavirus pandemic rages on in Rhode Island and across the country, the future of a beloved summer event is uncertain. At this time, it's unknown if the National Guard will hold an air show and open house at Quonset Point this summer.

Last year's show, set for June, was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, since so many National Guard members were needed to help with the state's response effort. It was the second year in a row the event was not held, after a high number of deployments forced the cancellation of 2019's show.

WJAR reported that the 2021 air show is tentatively scheduled for June 26 and 27. Lieutenant Colonel Dennis Pineault, a spokesperson for the Rhode Island National Guard, said nothign is certain at this time.
