You know that old, yet still colorful Coca Cola crate that you keep walking by, at the General Stanton Inn Flea Market on Sundays? (Or maybe you even have one hidden in the corner of your own garage?) Perhaps it's time to uncap that soda crate's creative potential and upcycle it into something more unusual...?!

As you may (or may not!) remember, Coca Cola crates were once delivery boxes for the bubbly, iconically American soda. Yet ever since pre-printed cardboard came along, these well-constructed wooden soda crates, lost their first jobs, yet did not retire from usefulness. They immediately became popular collectibles, re-employed in people's homes and garages as "catch-all" containers and storage boxes.

With the recent upturn in upcycling, DIY-ers are now giving Coca Cola crates and other vintage delivery boxes, both useful and beautiful repurposing. And the more "weathered" the Coca Cola crate looks, the more rustic the repurposing project will be.

The alphabet of Coca Cola crate upgrades, starts with a 3-D advent calendar, and moves on to book cases, book shelves and a boot organizer. Coke crates can also be created into a caddy, chandeliers and other custom lighting, Christmas shadow boxes, coat racks, and craft paints/craft tools/ art supplies organizers.

Coca Cola crates can be designed into desks and a chest of drawers. And an end table is only at the beginning of the list of Coca Cola crate possibilities. These soda crates, can also become holders for holiday paper plates and utensils, especially for those patriotic color-coordinating, 4th of July picnics.

A kitchen island, created from Coca Cola crates, is one of the more unusual restylings. Laundry room storage and magazine holders, are some of the more expected uses. What do you think about a Coke crate nightstand, or an ottoman with secret storage space inside? Just add legs to your Coke container, and you've fashioned yourself a handy foot stool...Or how would you like to reshape a crate into a serving tray, shadow box, shelf, shoe storage center, a spice rack or a storage container for office supplies?

You might also consider transforming your Coke crate into a table, table-top bar, tie holder or toy box...Perhaps you'll consider other possibilities for your wooden Coke container, such as a utensils box for the kitchen? Or maybe you'd like to revamp crates into vegetable bins? And depending on the whim you're in, why not rework your Coke container into a wagon, to carry children's dolls, toys, or your garden tools Your Coke crate wagon, can also double as a decorative yard display for potted plants or flowers!

Come look for Coca Cola crates or other vintage, wood, advertising containers, at The General Stanton Inn Flea Market, 4115 Old Post Road, in Charlestown, this Sunday, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m..
