Mike Salomone, of Narragansett, started off in coaching as a volunteer assistant in 1993.

NARRAGANSETT-SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI - From the Gridiron Club: By Bruce Mastrocchio. Mike Salomone , of Narragansett, started off in coaching as a volunteer assistant in 1993. Little did he know that that would be the beginning of a wonderful coaching ride that would take him from high school to college and back, with a few state titles and a coach of the year award along the way.
"I loved sports, but, I did it for the kids and the community first," he said. " I received the greatest satisfaction from watching young people achieve their dreams. I also had the pleasure of coaching my own kids along the way. Easily the most proud moments of my career."
While doing that Mike coached teams that won state titles in two sports, softball, with back to back titles in 2013 and 2014, and NYBA basketball. He also was tabbed as Division 3 Softball Coach of the Year in 2014.
