How Much Crime Takes Place in South Kingstown?

New statistics were released by the FBI this month.

Twenty-six violent crimes were reported in South Kingstown last year, according to according new statistics released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The 2012 number is up from 2011's total of 25 violent crimes.

The FBI's annual Uniform Crime Report includes information submitted by local law enforcement agencies. The information is compiled and released to the public in the fall of the year that follows the reported year. Violent crime, as defined by the report, includes murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault.

In 2012, South Kingstown reported no murders, four forcible rapes, six robberies and 16 aggravated assaults.

In addition to violent crimes, South Kingstown reported 273 property crimes in 2012. There were 67 burglaries, 197 instances of larceny or theft, nine motor vehicle thefts and five arsons.
