Kyra Sedgwick To Film Movie In Rhode Island
Sedgwick said that filming in the Ocean State was "a breath of fresh air."
WICKFORD, RI — Another big-budget Hollywood production is coming to Rhode Island. On Wednesday, the Rhode Island Film and TV Office announced that Kyra Sedgwick is directing a film in the Ocean State.
The film, Space Oddity, was written by Rebecca Banner and stars Kyle Allen of West Side Story, Alexandra Shipp of the X-Men franchise and Medline Brewer of The Handmaid's Tale. It is the second film directed by Sedgwick.
Principal photography is set to start in Wickford and North Kingstown.

The film is the story of a man named Alex who leaves Earth on a one-way mission to Mars. On the way, he develops a romance with Daisy, complicating his choices.
"Shooting Space Oddity in Rhode Island is a breath of fresh air," Sedgwick said. "Everyone from the Rhode Island Film office to the town of Wickford has welcomed us with open arms. We have a local crew that can’t be beat and the locations are magical. We couldn't be more delighted for the opportunity to make our film here!"

Gov. Dan McKee praised the production's choice to come to Rhode Island, saying it "showcases our beautiful state."
"With our unique landscape and talented local artists, Rhode Island is an ideal location for filmmakers," McKee said. "Every time a production shoots here we see a positive impact on our local businesses. This is the type of energy that keeps moving our economy forward."
