CHARLESTOWN, RI — Animal shelters usually see an increase in lost dogs in the days following Fourth of July since pets are scared by fireworks and run away. Late Friday night, a worker at Charlestown Town Beach found an unexpected lost pet in the sand—someone's lost hamster.

A photo of the missing rodent was posted to the Rhode Island Lost Pet Locator Facebook page early Saturday morning.

The brown, tan and white hamster was found by a little girl on the beach and given to the worker, who was later able to successfully reunite it with its owners.
