Connecticut Boy, 16, Killed In Crash On Block Island

The victim died at the scene while another minor was seriously injured and flown to a hospital. The underage driver is facing DUI charges.

NEW SHOREHAM, RI — A 16-year-old Connecticut teenager was killed in a crash on Block Island Sunday afternoon, according to Rhode Island State Police. On Monday, the victim was identified as Jackson Panus, of Southport, Connecticut.

The crash happened on West Side Road around 12:30 p.m., police said. Panus was declared dead at the scene, while a second boy was seriously injured and flown by helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital.

Police said the driver, who is underage, was taken to the Rhode Island Training School and held on charges of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol-death resulting and serious injury resulting, and driving to endanger-death resulting and serious injury resulting. She is scheduled to appear in Family Court on Tuesday.
