Narragansett Police Log: December 29, 30 and 31, 2012

Whoops – No Arrest After Vehicle Accidentally Backs Into Police Cruiser

At about 2:25 a.m. on Dec. 29, police conducted a traffic stop of a grey Toyota Camry at the Westbay Village Apartments on Boston Neck Road.

According to police, an officer traveling behind the Camry on Boston Neck Road noted that it didn’t have a working plate light, and two brake lights were malfunctioning as well. Police said the officer pulled behind the car in the lot of the apartments.

However, police said that the car began rolling backward toward the cruiser. The officer hit his air horn to alert the driver, police said, but the driver didn’t respond in enough time, and the Camry hit the cruiser.

According to police, the damage to both cars appeared to be cosmetic only. A second officer was called to the scene as a result of the accident, to take a statement from the first officer.

Police said that the driver, a 35-year-old Narragansett man, showed no signs of impairment and passed field sobriety tests. A search of his car was also negative for any contraband. Police said that man apparently put his car into reverse instead of park by accident.

As a result, no arrest was made, and the driver was only cited for the equipment violations. Police also collected his insurance information.

Narragansett Man Arrested for Warrant

Stephan A. Rodriguez, 23, of 17 Middle Road, Narragansett, was arrested at about 1:14 p.m. on Dec. 30. Police said a Fourth Division District Court warrant was out for his arrest for failing to appear at a court hearing.

According to police, an officer driving behind a car on Point Judith Road near Burnside Avenue noted that the entire rear windshield was covered in snow. As a result, a traffic stop was made on Burnside Avenue.

Police said a background check of the driver – Rodriguez – revealed the warrant. He was arrested without incident, processed at headquarters and then released at about 6:30 p.m.

Narragansett Teen Cited for Alcohol, Seat Belt Violations

Samantha J. McCrave Harvey, 18, of 19 Ashbrook Road, Apt. #B, Narragansett, was cited at about 8:56 p.m. on Dec. 31 and charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor.

According to police, an officer traveling behind a tan sedan on Point Judith Road near Knowlesway saw that the rear plate light was malfunctioning. A traffic stop was made on Knowlesway near Coffey Avenue.

Police said that during the stop, a brown paper bag with a bottle of Kinky Liqueur could be seen. The alcohol was confiscated after a background check of the driver – Harvey – revealed that she was only 18.

According to police, there was also a 2-year-old in the car on the lap of 23-year-old woman. As a result, Harvey was also cited for a seat belt violation.
