Narragansett Police Log: February 4 and 5, 2013

Unless otherwise noted, information about the following incidents was supplied by the Narragansett Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

More High Than Drunk – Narragansett Man Charged With Drunken Driving

Hunter James Gorenski, 23, of 24 Wanda St., Apt. #A, Narragansett, was arrested at about 12:55 a.m. on Feb. 4 and charged with drunken driving with a blood alcohol level greater than 0.15.

According to police, an officer saw a gold Saturn swerving on Kingstown Road near Mumford Avenue and Prospect Avenue. Police noted that the car also stopped at a green light near Strathmore Street, and as a result, a traffic stop was made near Wanda Street.

Police said that Gorenski – the driver – smelled strongly of alcohol, and told them, “I thought I was doing just fine.” Police said that when asked about his alcohol consumption that night, Gorenski told them, “I’ve got nothing to say.”

According to police, Gorenski failed field sobriety tests, at which point he was arrested. Police said Gorenski consented to chemical breath tests at headquarters, which revealed blood alcohol levels of .236 and .224 at 1:32 a.m. and 1:34 a.m.

Police said that during processing, Gorenski told them he shouldn’t have been driving, not because of the drinking, but because he was more high than drunk. Gorenski was also cited for swerving and for driving without proof of insurance, processed at headquarters and then released at about 6 a.m.

South Kingstown Man Charged With Drunken Driving

Dustin Dehaven Fildes, 34, of 129 Pearls Way, South Kingstown, was arrested at about 2:01 a.m. on Feb. 4 and charged with drunken driving with a blood alcohol level greater than 0.15.

According to police, an officer on Boston Neck Road near Coffee Connection clocked a maroon Saturn station wagon driven by Fildes at 47 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone. A traffic stop was made on Pontiac Road.

Police said the driver – Fildes – smelled strongly of alcohol and had trouble finding his vehicle’s registration, even though police said it was in plain sight.

According to police, Fildes attempted half of the usual field sobriety tests, before stopping and telling them, “I can’t do it,” and “I had too much.” At that point, he was arrested.

Police said Fildes consented to chemical breath tests, which revealed blood alcohol levels of .372 and .383. Because of the high readings, Fildes was then transported to South County Hospital for treatment.

According to police, Fildes was seen by a doctor and then discharged at 3:29 a.m. He was processed at headquarters and released at about 5:30 a.m.

Following his Narragansett arrest, Fildes was then arrested in South Kingstown about two weeks later with a similar blood alcohol level. For that report, click here.

Narragansett Man Charged With Possession of Marijuana

Ryan F. Bresnahan, 24, of 39 Conch Road, Narragansett, was arrested at about 2:56 a.m. on Feb.4 and charged with possession of marijuana.

According to police, an officer monitoring the area near Charlie O’s saw a red Ford sedan with fogged up windows and four people inside. Police said that as they approached the car, all four people attempted to leave it and go inside the bar, with police ordering them back to the car.

Police said that while speaking with Bresnahan, who was in the driver’s seat, the car’s interior smelled strongly of marijuana. When asked about this, he told police there was more in the center console.

According to police, about 2.5 grams of marijuana was confiscated and Bresnahan was arrested without incident. A passenger was given permission to drive the car from the scene. Bresnahan was processed at headquarters and then released at about 3:12 a.m.
