Narragansett Police Log: February 6, 2013

Narragansett Man Charged With DWI; Bath Salts Confiscated

Tyler James Williams, 24, of 1370 Boston Neck Road, Narragansett, was arrested at about 3:29 a.m. on Feb. 6 and charged with drunken driving – second offense.

According to police, an officer driving behind Williams on Boston Neck Road near South Ferry Road saw his car swerving and traveling 30 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone. Police said a traffic stop was made at Williams’ home, after he ignored an officer’s siren and flashing lights to pull over at Edgewater and Pettasqumscutt Lake Shores.

Police said that while speaking with Williams, he seemed to be twitching uncontrollably, and his pupils appeared to be constricted, showing signs of drug usage.

According to police, based on past arrests they knew Williams often used narcotics, and he consented to a search. Police said the search revealed two capped needles and three bags of bath salts. Police said Williams told them that he switched from heroin to bath salts because they’re perfectly legal and give him a high like cocaine.

Police said that Williams consented to field sobriety tests, which he failed. As a result, he was arrested. Police said an inventory of Williams’ car revealed another needle and a small pouch of bath salts.

According to police, because Williams was suspected of using narcotics, he was transferred to South County Hospital for a blood draw, which he consented to.

Police said that at about 2:50 a.m., they received a report from a family member of Williams. The family member said his erratic driving was due to him taking two new prescriptions for a bi-polar condition.

According to police, Williams was processed at headquarters and then transferred to Fourth Division District Court at 9 a.m. for arraignment.

Two Cited for Underage Drinking at Pancho O’Malley’s

According to police, at about 11:15 p.m. on Feb. 6 they received a report of underage people drinking inside at Pancho O’Malley’s.

Police said that after surveying the bar, they did ID checks on two men, both of whom were underage. The men were identified as University of Rhode Island students:

• Tyler B. Becker, 19, of 109 Fardale Ave., Mahwah, NJ
• Michael A. Bonadio Jr., 20, of 24 Albert St., Waltham, MA

According to police, both said they just walked into the bar and hadn’t been carded. Both were cited on scene and released.
