Narragansett Police Log: November 2, 2012

Unless otherwise noted, information about the following incidents was supplied by the Narragansett Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Renters, Property Owner Cited for Another Violation of Noise Ordinance

At about 1:52 a.m. on Nov. 2, police received a report of a loud party at 220 Knowlesway.

According to police, about 150 to 175 people were at the party, with a large amount of litter in the surrounding yards and noises coming from the property.

Police said that as they approached, a large group of people went back into the house, shouting, “The cops are here, everyone hide.”

According to police, an attempt to clear the party was only partially successful, with a large group of people staying inside the house and refusing to come to the door.

Police said that because of a previous party on Sept. 15, a public nuisance sticker was given to the house on Sept. 17.

Police noted that the sticker still was on the property, and an officer familiar with the tenants from the first loud party complaint recognized a tenant attempting to hide via an open window. Police also photographed three cars, belonging to the tenants, parked in the driveway.

According to police, they attempted to speak with the tenants again at 5:18 a.m. and 6:15 a.m., but both times they refused to answer the door. Police finally made contact at 9:45 a.m., at which point the tenants signed the summons.

Police identified the tenants as Joshua F. Steinkamp, 20, David Perrotta, 22, and Luca A. Rietti, 21. Police said all three are University of Rhode Island Students.

According to police, because this was a subsequent violation of the social host ordinance, they contacted the property owner – Mary E. Kitzes, 65, of 219 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence – but she refused to come to the property. Her summons was mailed to her, police said.

Dating back several years, police have had problems with parties as Kitzes’ property.

Narragansett Woman Charged With Possession of Marijuana, License Violation

Anavah Q. Perrault, 20, of 46 Greenbrier Road, Narragansett, was arrested at about 11:51 p.m. on Nov. 2 and charged with possession of marijuana and driving with a suspended license.

According to police, a dispatcher received a report of a car swerving on Ocean Road near Hazard Avenue. Police found the car near the intersection of Ocean Road and Bass Rock Road, observed it swerving, and made a traffic stop near Ocean Tides.

Police said that the driver – Perrault – apologized for the driving, blaming it on her driving while talking on her cell phone. Police asked her to consent to field sobriety tests, which they said she passed.

However, a background check revealed that Perrault’s license had been suspended on July 31, Sept. 5 and Sept. 26, each time for failing to pay tickets related to stop sign and expired license violations. As a result, she was arrested.

According to police, an inventory of Perrault’s car revealed a plastic baggie with marijuana in it on top of a pile of clothes. As a result, a possession charge was added.

Police said Perrault was processed at police headquarters and then released at about 12:55 a.m. on Nov. 3.

Narragansett Man Arrested for Warrant, Charged With License Violation

Peter P. Paolozzi, 30, of 24 Lakeview Drive, Narragansett, was arrested at about 9:47 a.m. on Nov. 2 and charged with driving with a suspended license.

Police said a Fourth Division District Court warrant was also out for Paolozzi’s arrest for failing to appear at a court hearing related to a Narragansett police charge of driving with a suspended license.

According to police, an officer familiar with Paolozzi from previous arrests saw him making a turn from Bridgetown Road on to Oxeye Trail.

Police said the officer followed Paolozzi in an attempt to make a traffic stop, but he was traveling in excess of 40 miles per hour and made turns on to Lupine Trail and Birchwood Drive without using a signal. Police said a stop was made on Birchwood Drive.

According to police, a background check confirmed the warrant for Paolozzi’s arrest, and also that his license was not reinstated.

He was arrested without incident, and also cited for speeding and for failing to use turn signals. He was transported to Fourth Division District Court for arraignment at about 11:30 a.m.

North Kingstown Man Arrested for Suspended License

Nicholas Alan Dailey, 20, of 694 Ten Rod Road, Apt. #B, North Kingstown, was arrested at about 10:23 p.m. on Nov. 2 and charged with driving with a suspended license.

According to police, an officer traveling behind a red Toyota Corolla on Point Judith Road near Old Point Judith Road noted that its rear license plate wasn’t properly affixed, and the car also had a loud exhaust. A traffic stop was made near Jerry’s Hardware.

Police said a background check of the driver – Dailey – revealed that his license was suspended on Oct. 31 for failing to appear at a court hearing.

He was arrested without incident, processed at police headquarters and then released at about 12:19 a.m. on Nov. 3. Police warned Dailey for the license plate and exhaust violations.
