Narragansett Police Warn Of Phone Scam
Callers are spoofing the police department's phone number and saying the person owes money for an arrest or subpoena.

NARRAGANSETT, RI — The Narragansett Police Department warned residents to be aware of a phone scam recently reported in the town. Callers are pretending to be police officers, and demanding payment over the phone.
According to the department, the scammers spoof the department's phone number, making it look like they are the callers. The caller then claims the resident owes money for an arrest warrant or subpoena, and asks for payment through a gift card or other electronic means.
The department reminded residents that officers will never call people directly and ask for payment over the phone, or ask for money to avoid an arrest. Call the department directly at 401-789-1091 with any questions.
