Narragansett Scouts to Collect Food to Help the Hungry This Weekend

Narragansett Scouts will deliver grocery bags for donations on Saturday, Oct. 26 and collect them Nov. 2.

On Saturday, Oct. 26, the Scouts from Troops 1 and 2 of Narragansett will be collecting food to help the hungry residents in their community. Donations collected will be distributed to local food pantries to help residents in need.

Scouts will leave an empty grocery bag on each household front door throughout Narragansett neighborhoods. Items to be donated should be bagged and placed on the doorstep on Saturday Nov. 2., when Scouts will be canvassing the neighborhood to collect them. In a typical year, Scouts collect between 4,000 and 7,000 pounds of food, thanks to the generous Narragansett community.

Items needed include: canned meats/fish, fruit juice, soups, baby formula, Jello, pudding mix, pasta, rice, beans, sauces, canned fruit, canned vegetables, baby cereal, powdered milk, peanut butter, hot or cold cereal. No outdated, opened, or glass items, please.

The food collection is part of Scouting For Food, an effort by Packs and Troops around the nation to fight hunger.

“Thank you to all that have contributed in the past and in advance for your participation this year,” read a release from Troop 1 and 2 TroopMasters, who referred to the Scouting For Food program as “one of the most rewarding and meaningful Scouting service that has been an important part of local Scouts’ lives for decades”.
