New, Looser Coronavirus Restrictions Take Effect In RI
Coronavirus restrictions were loosened across the board in Rhode Island.

PROVIDENCE, RI — New coronavirus regulations took effect in Rhode Island Friday, allowing businesses more leniency in nearly every sector. As the state continues to reopen, public health officials reminded residents to continue practicing social distancing and wearing high-quality masks around others to keep the spread of the virus low in the state amid the new guidance.
Gov. Dan McKee and Commerce Secretary Stefan Pryor announced the new rules last week, saying that the "significant" changes were intended to offer relief to struggling businesses.

- Indoor dining: 75 percent capacity, 6-foot spacing between tables
- Bar areas: 11 p.m. closure, midnight if food is ordered
- Catered events: 75 percent capacity; up to 100 people inside and 200 people outside. Some dancing allowed.
- Churches/houses of worship: 75 percent capacity; electronic services still recommended
- Retail stores: One person per 50 square feet, or one person per 100 square feet for big-box stores. No outdoor limit.
- Gyms/sports facilities: One person per 50 square feet, no outdoor limit
- Personal services (salons, etc.): One person per 50 square feet, 6-foot spacing
- Venues of assembly (theaters, cinemas, etc.): 50 percent capacity, up to 250 people inside and 500 people outside
- Funeral homes: 50 percent capacity
- Offices: Up to 50 percent capacity, remote work preferred
- Social gatherings: 15 people indoors, 50 people outdoors
