Low-Flying Nat. Grid Helicopter Causes Confusion In Charlestown

CHARLESTOWN, RI — A low-flying helicopter in Charlestown caused confusion about a potential crash Thursday afternoon. National Grid was conducting wire inspections, which requires low flying, the company said.

According to the company, a resident saw the low flying helicopter above the high-tension wires and thought it had crashed. However, there was no issue.

National Grid is in the process of inspecting line structures, which requires hovering very low over wires to take high-resolution photos, a spokesperson for the company said. Several towns are being inspected this week, and the low-flying helicopters should not be a cause for alarm.
