Officials to Celebrate Senior Housing Development Completion
The completion of 70 affordable apartments at La Casa at Rodman Commons, a new development for the elderly, will be celebrated on Friday.

On Friday, June 21 at 2:30 p.m., state and local officials will gather for a celebration at 80 Samuel Rodman Street in South Kingstown - the site of 70 new affordable senior apartments.
The celebration will be held in honor of La Casa at Rodman Commons, a $7.7 million apartment complex developed by Women's Development Corp., (WDC) a non-profit housing developer based in Rhode Island. The company operates similar developments in Hopkinton, Johnston, West Warwick, Providence and Woonsocket, as well as other RIÂ communities.

La Casa at Rodman Commons was funded under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) 202 program. The development is now fully occupied and new residents will be present at Friday's ceremony to welcome Town and State Officials and representatives from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, as well as Governor Lincoln Chafee and Senator Jack Reed. Â
While serving as U.S. Senator, Gov.Chafee helped Women’s Development Corporation secure $4.5 million for the first phase of the development.Â

Sen. Reed secured $3.2 million for the second phase and the completion of the development, and was also the leading advocate for the award of $1 million to Women’s Development Corporation from the U.S. Treasury Department under its Capital Magnet Fund, which is intended to leverage capital for economic and housing development activities.
